As children in Ondo State are celebrating the 2025 International Children’s Day, Ondo State government in collaboration with Save the Children International(SCI) on Thursday organised a two-day workshop for Children’s Parliamentarians, including children with disabilities.
The Special Adviser(Women Affairs and Social Development) to the governor, Dr. Oluwaseun Osamaye, while declaring the workshop open, stated that the state government was intentional in building young generation of leaders in governance.
She said the workshop would enlighten the children on their roles as parliamentarians and the leadership skills they needed to inculcate for successful leadership.
Children from disabilities community were included in the workshop to foster inclusive participation.
Dr Osamaye lauded Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his unwavering commitment to child development and the collaborating organization, Save the Children International(SCI) for the collaboration.
She said: “I want to appreciate our Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for the support he has been giving to children in the state to develop and prepare them for the future.
“I must also commend our partner, Save the Children International, a non-governmental organization, for its efforts in protecting our children in cocoa producing communities of Ondo state.
“Ondo State government has been up and doing in the implementation of child protection policy in our state.
“The Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has a role in promoting child participation in the state affairs.”
Earlier, the Communication Officer of Save the Children International, Ehinmofe Samuel emphasised on the security and safeguarding efforts of the International organization at protecting children in Ondo and Rivers states.
Appreciating the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Ehinmofe noted that the collaboration and invaluable contributions of Ministry enhanced SCI’s efforts on child initiatives that promote the rights and well being of children across the state
The Lead speaker at the workshop, Emmanuel Adaramola emphasised on the leadership and advocacy skills for the young parliamentarians.
He added that Ondo state children are lucky to have the Children’s Parliament resuscitated by Governor Aiyedatiwa, charging the young parliamentarians to make judicious use of the opportunity provided by the workshop.
The workshop had in attendance children and young people from secondary schools across the 18 local government areas of the stste, leaders of religious organizations and stakeholders in the education sector.
