Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has launched a fierce criticism of the match official after his side’s defeat to Celta Vigo, saying a series of poor refereeing decisions “drove the team crazy” and contributed heavily to the loss.
Fabrizio Romano on Monday quoted Alonso as saying, “I did not like the referee’s decisions at all. It was poor. The decisions drove us crazy.
‘’The red card to Carreras was something he was clearly looking for. The referee let Celta waste time, never even warned them about it, and kept stopping play every time.”
When asked about rumours that he could be fired, the Real Madrid manager replied: “I’m not thinking of that. I’m thinking of Real Madrid vs Man City. I’m just thinking of Wednesday’s game. We’re all united, all together.”
Real Madrid crashed to a damaging 2–0 home defeat to Celta Vigo on Sunday in La Liga, finishing the game with nine men after red cards for Fran García and Álvaro Carreras.
The defeat puts Real Madrid four points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona.
