The Chairman of Aladewe Ride, an E-Hailing service outfit, Otunba Yomi Akingbade have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the appointments of the new service chiefs. He referred to the bold decision of the President to sack the non-performing Service Chiefs as a move that is long overdue but better late than never.
The astute business man stated that the persistence of insecurity across Nigeria’s land and territorial waters throughout the tenure of the former Service Chiefs was undeniable evidence of incompetence, poor coordination, and policy failure.
“From the forests of Zamfara to the highways of Abuja–Kaduna, the creeks of the Niger Delta to the shores of the Gulf of Guinea, insecurity flourished under their watch. Kidnapping, banditry, insurgency, and piracy became daily realities for Nigerians. It became imperative for to relieve them of their duties and make new appointments.
Otunba Akingbade also extended his appreciation to the National Assembly for their swift action in ensuring the transition in the security leadership that was done expeditiously and responsibly.
“President Bola Tinubu has made changes in the hierarchy of the Service Chiefs in furtherance of the efforts of the Federal Government of Nigeria to strengthen the national security architecture. We must also appreciate the National Assembly for been prompt with the screening and approval”
The new service chiefs are Lieutenant-General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Army Staff, Major-General Waidi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke as Chief of Air Staff and Rear Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff. However, the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P Undiendeye, retained his position.
