The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Ajani Musibau Omolabi, of
Zonal Command Headquarters (Zone 17) Akure, Ondo State capital, has organised a one-day seminar aimed at strengthening professionalism, ethical conduct, and operational effectiveness among officers and men under the jurisdiction.
Top-ranking officers from Ondo and Ekiti states were in attendance.
Declaring the seminar open, AIG Ajani spoke on Contemporary Policing, highlighting the evolving nature of security challenges and the urgent need for a strategic shift towards intelligence-led, community-based, and technology-driven policing.
He emphasized that the Nigeria Police must continuously adapt to global best practices while upholding the principles of accountability, transparency, and respect for human rights.
According to the AIG, the Police must move beyond traditional reactive policing, and that success now depends on proactive engagement, trust-building with the public, and professional discipline at all levels of operations.
The seminar featured contributions from key senior officers within the Zonal Command:
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations (DC ZDOPs) delivered a practical on Stop and Search: Procedure, Purpose, and Professional Conduct, stressing the importance of lawful conduct, courtesy, and operational intelligence during field operations.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (DC ZCID) presented on Effective Investigation and Case Management, drawing attention to the need for diligent evidence gathering, proper documentation, and adherence to the rule of law in handling criminal cases.
Zonal Deputy Commissioner of Administration spoke on General Administration: The Backbone of Police Efficiency, emphasizing the critical role of structure, accountability, and logistics in ensuring a functional and disciplined command.
Zonal Officer-in-Charge Legal Section (O/C Legal) presented an incisive lecture on Administration of Criminal Justice and Conduct of Police Officers in the Court of Law, reiterating the importance of professionalism, integrity, and accurate representation of facts during court proceedings.
The seminar provided a platform for knowledge sharing, strategic planning, and capacity building, in line with the vision of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, to reposition the Nigeria Police Force as a model of professionalism and public service.
Zone 17 under AIG Ajani’s leadership remains committed to training and retraining, ensuring synergy between departments, and fostering partnerships with communities to enhance peace, security, and justice.
