As part of measures to stem insecurity in the country, the Federal Government has been called upon to activate provisions of the Armed Forces Act to fight banditary and other crimes in the nation.
The House of Representatives made the call on Thursday, asking for Armed Forces Reserve team to be put in place to assist in the fight against insecurity in the country.
Specifically, the federal lawmakers asked the Chief of Defence Staff and the Inspector General of Police to intervene in the recent quit notice allegedly issued to the Hausa Community in Abavo, Delta State to vacate the area to avoid a breakdown of law and order.
The House arrived at the recommendations having deliberated on two separate security-related motions adopted at the plenary presided over by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen.
The House Committee on Defence was directed to liaise with the leadership of the Armed Forces to develop and implement a comprehensive plan for the training, integration and utilization of the Armed Reserve team.
The House Committee on Defense was also directed to take immediate steps to activate the establishment of the Armed Forces Reserve as provided for in the Armed Forces Act.
The committee was given order to complete the assignment and report back to the House within 30 days.
Reports say the Hausa community was given ultimatum to vacate the community due to Incessant kidnap incidents and the natives accused the Hausa of being responsible, which they(Hausa) denied.
