Ms Aisha Achimugu has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Achimugu was reportedly picked up at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
A statement from her legal team on Tuesday said Achimugu was apprehended around 5am upon her arrival from London.
It was gathered that the business woman was thereafter moved to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja where investigators are grilling her currently.
The EFCC had said that Achimugu was declared wanted by the commission for criminal conspiracy and money laundering.
Her lawyer had earlier informed the Federal High Court in Abuja that Achimugu had declared her intention, through court documents, to honour the EFCC’s invitation on Tuesday.
This follows a court order issued by Justice Inyang Ekwo, directing Achimugu to report to the anti-graft agency on April 29, 2025.
The court also mandated her appearance on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, to continue legal proceedings in the matter.
The Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr Dele Oyewale explained last month that the Commission commenced investigation into the activities of Achimugu since 2002 but she got an order restraining the commission from investigating and detaining her which was vacated by the Federal High Court in February 19, 2025.
He also dismissed insinuations in the media that Achimungu’s probe had political undertone involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“We wish to state unequivocally that the investigations of Achimugu have no correlation of any kind with the two political actors.
“She is being investigated for alleged criminal conspiracy and money laundering and has since been declared Wanted by the Commission.
