The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NiDCOM, has repatriated 13 Nigerians rescued from a human trafficking network in Ghana.
In a statement signed on Sunday by the Head of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols Unit, Mr. Abdur Rahman Balogun, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri Erewa, commended the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana for facilitating the safe return of the victims.
Dabiri Erewa also expressed appreciation to the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her continuous support in providing transportation and other assistance during rescue operations.
The statement noted that the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) conducted profiling as part of the standard reintegration process, while NiDCOM provided logistical support to ensure the returnees’ safe arrival in their respective states.
The returnees were received on behalf of the NiDCOM chairman by the Head of Operations in Lagos, Mr. Dele Ogunkanbi.
Dabiri Erewa reiterated concerns over the growing risks of irregular migration, warning young Nigerians against unverified job offers and travel arrangements abroad.
The rescued group includes 11 adults and two babies aged four weeks and 16 months. Some of the women and children are receiving medical care and mental health support after being diagnosed with serious health conditions.
The repatriation exercise was led by Ambassador Adeoye, the Acting Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, alongside relevant stakeholders and partner agencies.
