Operatives of the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, have arrested a commercial taxi driver, Adedayo Adegbola, in connection with multiple cases of rape, assault, and armed robbery targeting female passengers across the state.
The arrest followed viral online posts in which several victims identified the suspect’s picture as that of the man who allegedly assaulted them after posing as a taxi driver.
The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, saying the arrest was made after a discreet investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohudare Jimoh.
The statement said, “Crack detectives and smart operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Lagos State Police Command, have arrested one Adedayo Ben Adegbola, male, identified by some of the victims as the driver whose picture appeared in viral online posts, in connection with multiple cases of rape, defilement, assault occasioning harms, indecent assault, and multiple armed robberies on female passengers in some parts of the State.

“Subsequent to the strict directives from the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, the crack detectives and smart operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) commenced a detailed and discreet investigation into the complaint from victims of the dastardly acts of the suspect.
“The painstaking investigation by the Police Joint Investigation teams resulted in the arrest of this vicious and very notorious suspect on 31st October, 2025 at about 0940 hrs.”
According to the statement, the suspect was arrested with the vehicle allegedly used in committing the crimes, a red Toyota Corolla with registration number JJJ 226 HT, which has been recovered as an exhibit.
Adebisi added that the suspect is currently in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend his accomplices believed to have participated in the attacks.
