In what many are branding a blatant act of political vendetta, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has ordered the sealing of properties belonging to his predecessor and political heavyweight, Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD).
On Monday, officials from the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority stormed Sagamu, pasting official “Notice of Seal/Stop Work Orders” on Daniel’s private residence and his upscale hotel, Adeola Court.
The notices alleged breaches of planning and development regulations. But critics argue the timing and the choice of target are anything but coincidental.
Public outcry has been swift, with many accusing Governor Abiodun of using state machinery to settle political scores. Political observers say the move is part of an intensifying cold war between the governor and the former two-term leader of the state, whose influence in Ogun politics remains formidable.
Daniel, a key player in the 2019 political realignment that helped propel Abiodun into office, is now seen by some as a victim of betrayal — and the sealing as a warning shot to other perceived opponents.
