Some leaders in Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have called on leaders of the party across the country to make it a marching order to begin to work for the unity of the party through self-sacrifice to rescue the nation from its current socio-economic quagmire in 2027.
The leaders under the auspices of Coalition of Democratic Leaders (CDL), a unified body of leaders within the party, made the call at the end of its inaugural meeting held on Friday night.
A statement signed by Nhiaraonye Chinyiriuwa Quentin (Omereoha), Assistant Secretary of the group, says that “the meeting marked a significant milestone in the coalition journey towards redeeming the party’s image and promoting unity among its leaders and members.”
Dr. Eje Paschal, the Team Lead, and several others who attended the meeting, emphasized on the importance of unity, strategic engagement, and collective effort in strengthening, redeeming the image of the party and ensuring electoral victory.
The group urged all leaders and members of the party to unite and avoid divisive tendencies that threatened the very fabric of the nation’s democracy.
During the meeting, the leaders came up with three key resolutions that would place PDP on a pedestal that would see it rescuing Nigerians and the nation from the current hardship in the next general elections.
They are “Unity and Sacrifice : Members should be committed to prioritizing unity, sacrifice, and strategic engagement to achieve the Coalition objectives.
“Rebranding the Party: Efforts will focus on redeeming the image of party and orienting Nigerians on its mission and values.
“Promoting Party Unity: The Coalition urges all leaders and members to promote party unity and avoid divisive tendencies that may harm the party’s interests.”
The statement reads in parts: “In these tumultuous times, it is crucial that we recognize the importance of unity in our pursuit of a better future. As leaders, we must understand that our current and future political relevance hinges greatly on the survival and prosperity of our great party, the PDP.
“We must not forget that abandoning our party for other political interests would likely lead to a loss of prominence and recognition. It is our collective responsibility to ensure the PDP remains a beacon of hope and democracy for our nation
“We urge all leaders to join us in this call for unity. Together, we can build a stronger, more prosperous future for our nation.”
The group, therefore, promised to pursue these goals to a successful conclusion, saying “The Coalition of Democratic Leaders(CDL) platform is committed to working tirelessly to promote the interests of the PDP and ensure its success in upcoming elections. We call on all leaders and members to join us in this noble endeavour.”
The participants at the meeting include Silas S. Tafiwarwar, Hon. Josephine Itoyah-Splendor, Prince Seyi Ajibola, Hon Ogu Charles, Mr. Ngoyi Deshi, Hon. Bello Mohammed, Hon. Sheriff Ogonda Ekwo, Dr. Maurice Ekong, Hon Fa’ud Muhammad, Engr. Abubakar Inuwa, among others.
